Art Commissions Now Open
I often receive requests for custom hand-crafted house portraits from across the state of Michigan and have now opened up my schedule to allow for such commissioned work.
With each commissioned home portrait my goal is to capture your home's personality in the classic Mighty Mitten style, creating a unique work of art that can fit right in with your other Mighty Mitten prints or stand all on its own. Perfect as a way to immortalize your family's special memories or as a uniquely original, one-of-a kind gift idea.
I am also accepting commissions for portraits of boats, cars, and planes.
How it Works
First, a little work on your end: we'll need to collect a good set of photos to work from, ideally from a variety of angles. Even if you already know which angle you favor it's usually best to have a few photos to work with - it's OK to even have a few photos all from roughly the same angle, because one of them is bound to be better in some way and that's the one we'll select as the main photo reference. Please keep in mind that it should be an angle that compliments the house and shows it’s architectural features. It also helps that it is free from obstacles and blockages, but I acknowledge that this is not always possible. Sometimes it's even nice to have photos from different seasons in order to see details of the house that might be hidden during the summer, even if the final piece will be a summer scene.
Based on what photo we select to work from (as well as your personal preference) we'll figure out if your piece will use a vertical, horizontal, or square layout. We will also discuss the preferred color palette, though this can usually be adjusted later as well.
After the main photo is selected, "final" level illustration begins. A 50% deposit is required at this time.
Please allow 3-5 weeks for completion once final-level work has begun.
Pricing
Commissioned pieces range from $500 - $900, depending on complexity. This will be determined after reviewing the photos of your home, as well as deciding if any special elements will be included in the portrait, such as people, pets, or vehicles. You may also choose to have typographic elements included, such as your name or the name of your cottage.
Included in the price of your portrait:
Up to four prints of your home portrait at one of the following sizes: 8"x10", 11"x14", 12"x12", 11"x17", 16"x20", or 16"x16"
A set of 5 greeting cards of your home portrait
Free shipping
Larger sized prints (18x24" or 24x36") and extra greeting cards can be purchased for an additional fee.
A 50% deposit is required to begin work on your portrait, with the remaining 50% due upon completion.

At this time I am I am limiting the number of commissions I take on to 10 per year.
